Bull yōkai are demons that look like upright going bulls. They have a great resemblance to the minotaur from the ancient Greek legends. They are very strong and resistant, and for their size and mass also surprisingly fast. They can also create miasma. Bull yōkai also have the ability to shapeshift in a human-like form. This ability has never been seen, but because one sees in the anime a bull hanyō, it is nevertheless strongly implied.

Kōtatsu was able to create real demons from his ink drawings thanks to a jewel fragment. He sent them out to do his bidding. One of these demons created from ink was a bull yōkai. This bull yōkai, along with many other demons, broke into the castle of the nobleman who had Kōtatsu beaten by his soldiers the day before, and together with a horse yōkai, he killed the soldiers who had beaten the painter.

The bull hanyō Izumo wanted to use the Shikon no Tama for his own purposes. However, because it was broken, he had a plan to create a new jewel. The fake jewels he created did not meet his requirements (although they made weaker demons stronger). He allied himself with demons such as Orochidayu, Gamajiro, Ikkaku, Tsuchigumo and others to lure Inuyasha and his friends into a trap and use them to create the new jewel.

Trivia[]

  • The bull yōkai are most likely based on the Ushi-oni or Gyuko from Japanese folklore. These two are a group of demons with bovine features. Demons of this type usually have the head of an ox, but a different looking body. The most common is the variant with the lower body of a giant spider, but there are also variants with the lower body of a tiger, an oni or a human.
