Face Off is the 25th chapter of the InuYasha manga.
Synopsis[]
- Kagome hears from her classmates about the murder of high school students.
- Noh Mask attacks Kagome and Sōta.
- Sōta goes to the well hoping to get Inuyasha's help. Inuyasha appears in the well.
Summary[]
- Kagome learns from her classmates that there was a murder in the park the previous night (when Noh Mask killed the punks.) The kids gossip that it was a woman with a mask for a face whose neck grew, and then she ate them all, but the only eyewitness to this was a drunk old man. Kagome doesn't like the sound of this, it sounds like a demon. She wonders if she should go get Inuyasha, but she talks herself out of it, as she won't get any studying done with him around. She starts to study, but realizes she doesn't have her textbook.
- Back in the Feudal Era, Inuyasha has Kagome's textbook. He and Myōga try to read it curiously. The flea asks where he got it and he says Kagome dropped. Myōga wonders if Kagome might need it, but Inuyasha replies he doesn't care, remembering how Kagome kicked him down the well.
- Back at Kagome's house, Grandpa Higurashi has fallen ill to food poisoning, and Ms. Higurashi will be staying with him at the hospital, leaving just Kagome and Sōta at the Higurashi house. Sōta asks if he can sleep in Kagome's room, scared because of the stories of the woman with the mask for a face. He says it looks just like the lady they saw before, (in Chapter 23.) Suddenly Kagome's window bursts open and glass goes everywhere, the Noh Mask appearing, now a grotesque mass of flesh. It mutters that it needs a better body, and needs the Shikon shards to get it. It attacks Kagome, trying to bite her, but Kagome throws a chair at her to defend herself. She grabs Sōta and runs.
- Kagome thinks to herself that she has to get Inuyasha's help. As she and her brother run away, the Noh Mask lunges for Kagome and she realizes the mask is after her Shikon Shards. Kagome runs, leading Noh Mask away, telling Sōta to go get Inuyasha. Kagome says "Don't say it's for me! Tell him there's a shard of the jewel at stake!"
- Sōta tries to go down the well to the Feudal Era like Kagome can, but he just falls to the ground. He cries wondering what to do next. He starts digging at the ground, begging the well to open "My sister, she's in trouble!". Suddenly Inuyasha appears and lifts Sōta in the air, grinning "Did you say... trouble?"
