Summary[]
Mōryōmaru questions Kanna, who claims to have run away from Naraku. The Infant's tendrils extend from Mōryōmaru's body, as the baby suspiciously looks into Kanna's heart for information, doubtful, as she never spoke a word of rebellion and he didn't even believe she possessed a soul. The Infant says he will read her soul and see if she is lying or telling the truth.
Inuyasha and friends are traveling, and Miroku asks Inuyasha if Tessaiga feels any different now that he's not getting any backlash from the Dragon-Scaled Tessaiga. The Hanyō says he isn't being harmed by the sword overheating anymore, so it really must have been purified by Nikosen's powers. Shippō spots a dead ox, and Miroku wonders if it's a casualty of a samurai battle, but Sango notes there's something odd about it. Upon closer inspection, Shippō sees it's been burned to a crisp. The group also sees scars of lightning blasts all around the ground. A few humans pass by and tell the group to move or they will be caught in the line of fire of an ongoing battle between two Yōkai, and it has caused many villages in the area to be destroyed. Suddenly, the two demons appear in the sky: two snake like demons that are intertwined, Kinka and Ginka. Each demon claims today will be the day he slays the other. Kinka spews flame, and Ginka shoots lightning, both causing some destruction of a nearby home. The group realizes the two demons look like brothers, maybe even twins.
Inuyasha swings his Tessaiga, telling the pair to stop fighting, but the demons escape into the sky, offended someone would interrupt their battle and demanding to know Inuyasha's identity. Kagome notices the two demons' tails join at the end and notes they're more like conjoined twins. Miroku asks the demons why they battle if they share the same blood. The pair respond they didn't ask to be brothers, and then begin fighting each other again. Inuyasha calls Kinka and Ginka stupid, saying "If you hate each other so much, why do you stay together?" and Shippō agrees, saying the pair should just go their separate ways. Ginka responds there is only one way to be separated: one of them must die. He explains that demons of their kind are born with two heads, but eventually, the stronger of the two heads devours the weaker head and matures as a single demon. However, so far, neither has been able to kill the other, only wounding each other. So they battle on, unable to kill the other. Miroku says this raises sibling rivalry to a new level, and Sango wonders what they can do. Inuyasha says he will just kill the two demons, but then Naraku's Saimyōshō appear.
Mōryōmaru learns how Kanna is being pursued by Naraku's demons, and comes to the conclusion she was not lying about fleeing from Naraku. He asks the girl incarnation if she is truly prepared to see Naraku die. Kanna says Naraku must die first. She holds up her mirror and shows Mōryōmaru an image of Kinka and Ginka. Mōryōmaru smiles and asks "So you're telling me to devour those two?"
