Akitoki sits with the gang

Kagome is taking a history test in school. She is frustrated that she didn't do well. As she, Yuka, Eri, and Ayumi are talking, Hōjō enters with his family tree. He shows them that the wife of his ancestor, Akitoki Hōjō, was named Kagome.

Kagome's friends gossip about Hōjō's family tree. They show Kagome photos from the Cultural Festival.

In the Feudal era, bandits threaten Akitoki. Inuyasha and Shippō come to his rescue. Akitoki is seeking Kaede for information about the Naginata of Kenkon. When he unwraps the Ken blade, Inuyasha becomes entranced by the blade's demonic aura; the effect is broken when Miroku quickly has Akitoki cover it.

Akitoki was heading for Mount Hakurei to purify the blade, but the mountain is gone. He seeks Kaede for another place to purify the blade. She sends Akitoki to the Shrine of Furai near the Shoun Waterfall at Mount Furai, the holiest place she knows of.

Akitoki begs Inuyasha, Shippō, Miroku and Sango for help, and is thrilled to find out that Kagome will be joining them.

Kagome arrives in the past, and they all depart for the Shoun Waterfall and Furai Shrine. Along the way, they are attacked, but they repel the assassins. Myōga joins them after Akitoki has told what he knows of the Ken blade and Kon blade. Myōga has information from Tōtōsai about the Naginata of Kenkon. They also learn of Hoshiyomi, leader of the demon ninjas, who is seeking to recreate the Naginata of Kenkon, which he had forged in the first place.

A night time ambush separates the group when Kagome and Akitoki fall into a river.
