Summary[]
Seeing Zero in an emotional, raging state; Towa relates herself with Zero. Towa thinks to herself that living in this world is hard and if you don’t follow the set rules then you’re treated as an outcast and she was so tired of it when she was in the modern era. Zero tells Sesshōmaru that she won't forgive him. Seeing Zero in an emotional, raging state, Towa thinks to herself that Zero is feeling now is probably like how she felt back then. Zero tells Sesshōmaru that she won't forgive him before she uses her staff and out of anger to break Sesshōmaru’s Tenseiga. Sesshōmaru becomes shocked as he calls out to his Tenseiga. Zero tells Sesshōmaru that she lost her sense of self and she had always thought to leave disposing of his daughters to Kirinmaru but she can’t take it anymore as she will deal with Towa and Setsuna herself and she will no longer falter as this is who she is after all as an aura surrounds her. Zero commands Riku to bring her the Rainbow Pearls the source of her demon powers. Riku tells Zero to wait. In the midst of Riku hesitating Zero’s commands, Kirinmaru makes his grand entrance to Sesshōmaru, Riku, Zero, Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha. Zero becomes surprised as she calls out to Kirinmaru. Towa says she was wondering when Kirinmaru would show up. Moroha says no wonder Myōga bolted when he could. Kirinmaru appears in front of Sesshōmaru, Riku, Zero, Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha as everyone is left silent by his entrance. Kirara comes flying in. Moroha calls out to Kirara. Setsuna tells Kirara thank you. Towa says there's so much bloodlust in the air. Moroha says not to mention the ridiculous demon energy. Setsuna says Kirinmaru looks so defenseless and yet she can't see an opening at all. Towa says Kirinmaru doesn't even need to pay them any attention and if she even think about moving she'll get cut in two that much even she knows. Zero currently has the 7 Rainbow Pearls surrounding her body. Zero tells Kirinmaru to not stop her. Kirinmaru tells Sesshōmaru to allow him to be the one to apologize about his Tenseiga as he feels remorse and wonders will he forgive him. Zero isn’t fond of Kirinmaru’s kindness and tells him to stop it. Kirinmaru tells Zero that she has gone too far. Zero becomes surprised. Riku calls out to Kirinmaru. Sesshōmaru tells Kirinmaru that his apology isn’t necessary as he had no attachment to Tenseiga. Sesshōmaru places the broken Tenseiga back into it’s sheath. Sesshōmaru draws out his Bakusaiga and tells Kirinmaru that as long as he has his Bakusaiga it will be enough. Zero tells Sesshōmaru that it's interesting and wonders will he cut her or should she say can he cut her. Sesshōmaru tells Zero that it does not matter as he will cut her. Zero tells Sesshōmaru that Tenseiga cannot bring the same person back from the dead twice and if he brings death upon him again then Rin whose life is still tied to hers will also die and wonders is that not his wish. A scene of Rin inside the Sacred Tree with Jaken watching over her. Rin sheds a tear. Jaken asks Rin was she crying and what's making her so sad. Sesshōmaru tells Zero that any more of this will only make Rin sorrowful and rushes in to make an attack with his Bakusaiga. Kirinmaru stops Sesshōmaru from striking and both of their swords cross paths with each other. Riku and Zero become surprised. Kirinmaru tells Sesshōmaru that he didn’t chase after the Akuru’s pinwheel and wonders out of respect for that won't he sheathe his Bakusaiga. Sesshōmaru tells Kirinmaru that he refuses. Kirinmaru tells Zero that Sesshōmaru is serious as Rin will no longer act as her shield. Zero tells Kirinmaru that's exactly what she has wished for. Sesshōmaru tells Kirinmaru to step aside as he distances himself from him. Sesshōmaru tells Kirinmaru that Zero will just be more pitiful. Kirinmaru tells Sesshomaru that he knows however. Zero tells Kirinmaru to stop getting in the way and if anything this is an older sister's efforts to protect his life and wonders was he repaying her charity with ingratitude. Kirinmaru becomes upset with Zero and tells her how pathetic. Kirinmaru uses his powers to trap Zero in a barrier. Kirinmaru tells Zero that vain wish on some worthless orb is what brought her this dishonor. Kirinmaru uses his powers to separate the 7 Rainbow Pearls from Zero and scattered all 7 Pearls across the region. Setsuna says the 7 Rainbow Pearls. Moroha says there the 7 Rainbow Pearls go. Towa tells Setsuna and Moroha that she guesses they still wanted to keep the Gold and Red Rainbow Pearls. Zero tells Kirinmaru really now and wonders should they sever their ties as it's fine by her before she uses her Azusa no Yumihari into the sky. Zero tells Kirinmaru from this moment forward they are nothing but strangers as he is no longer her brother nor she is his sister however she hopes he hasn't forgotten that the 7 Rainbow Pearls are her tears and no matter where they scatter she will always be able to find them before she departs. Zero tells Kirinmaru farewell as they shall never see each other again as she makes her leave. Kirinmaru tells Zero to wait as he tries to pursue her. Riku sneakily comes in from behind and stabs his sword into Kirinmaru through his armor. Towa becomes surprised. Riku tells Kirinmaru that he won't make any excuses. Kirinmaru asks Riku was he betraying him. Riku tells Kirinmaru that otherwise Zero won’t have a fighting chance and farewell. Riku uses the power of his earring to teleport out of there, leaving his sword jammed into Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru is affected by the wound. Towa and Setsuna are confused why Riku did that to Kirinmaru. Towa thinks to herself that she was only able to talk to Riku for a little bit and she feels sad because of that. Sesshōmaru draws Bakusaiga back into it’s sheath. Kirinmaru asks Sesshōmaru was he going after Zero. Sesshōmaru tells Kirinmaru to leave the matter with Zero to him. Kirinmaru tells Sesshōmaru to wait. Kirara sets down Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha on the ground before she flies away. Kirinmaru asks Sesshōmaru to what of Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha. Sesshōmaru tells Kirinmaru that it’s a rite of courage and cowardice and flies off. Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha watch Sesshōmaru make his leave. Kirinmaru looks at Towa and Setsuna and tells them that if they are Sesshōmaru's daughters then their true worth comes from survival as it's inevitable if they are hanyōs. Kirinmaru walks down the stairs towards Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha with Riku’s sword still embedded into his body. Kirinmaru tells Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha that as they can see he's in quite the irritable mood today while he uses his powers to draw the embedded sword out from his body and into his hand. Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha get into their fighting positions as they each draw out their blades against Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru takes his face mask off and tells Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha that if they'd withdrawn he would have let them escape but if they are to face him then he cannot hold back as he did the last time and wonders are they all right with that. Towa questions Kirinmaru that he means he held back last time and he's kidding her. Moroha says Kirinmaru's obviously lying. Setsuna says if this is a rite of courage and cowardice then she cannot simply withdraw. Kirinmaru touches the scar on his face and tells Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha to go ahead and unleash their powers and see how far they can get. Towa tells Kirinmaru let's do this before she swiftly runs to attack Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru jumps forward. Towa tells Kirinmaru that she's going to get Setsuna's dreams back. Kirinmaru and Towa’s blades crosses each other countless of times as Towa rashly swings her Energy Blade at him, but Kirinmaru remains unharmed by her. Kirinmaru slashes Towa's holster off. Setsuna uses her Cyclone Burst on Kirinmaru. Setsuna tells Towa that she better dodge. Setsuna uses her Scourge of Swallows at Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru cuts through Setsuna’s attack with the sword. Moroha uses her Crimson Dragon Wave on Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru uses his Demonic Energy Barrier with his sword to deflect Moroha's attack. Moroha uses her Crimson Backlash Wave on Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru uses his Blasting Barrage as it cuts through Moroha’s attack. Moroha becomes surprised. Setsuna uses her Cyclone Burst to protect Moroha from getting hit by Kirinmaru’s attack. Moroha asks Setsuna what was she doing. Setsuna tells Moroha that it's better than getting hit by Kirinmaru's attack. Setsuna’s Blood Blade in her arm reacts and the blood color transfers to her Kanemitsu no Tomoe. Towa becomes surprised. Kirinmaru tells Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha that their problem is their lack of spirit and if they hadn't depended on the Rainbow Pearls then their inherent powers would’ve manifested properly drops the deformed blade and takes out his Bakuseiken. Moroha tells Kirinmaru to quit running his mouth and focusing spirit powers before she uses her Heavenly Arrow Barrage on Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru tells Moroha that behold this force and when she's using spirit powers a Rainbow Pearl only gets in her way. Kirinmaru uses his Demonic Energy Barrier to block Moroha’s attack. The gust from Kirinmaru’s attack blows Moroha away. Towa calls out to Moroha. Kirara catches Moroha mid-air. Kirinmaru tells Towa and Setsuna that he suppose he should respond in kind and he challenges them.
Tōtōsai is flying on Mō-Mō as they headed towards Izayoi's burned mansion. Jaken calls out to Tōtōsai. Tōtōsai looks to see Jaken hanging onto Mō-Mō and realizes that it's him. Jaken tells Tōtōsai that Rin was crying and wonders can he hurry to the battle ground where Towa and Setsuna are fighting. Tōtōsai tells Jaken that they’re going to the same place but he doesn't think they're going to make it in time. Jaken becomes confused. Tōtōsai informs Jaken that he's talking about the birth of the heavenly naginata Yukari no Tachikiri. Kirinmaru continues to battle Towa. Towa realized that Kirinmaru has such power. Kirinmaru tells Towa that this is strange and wonders where is the girl who managed to land a cut on his cheek. Setsuna jumps in to help Towa and attempts to use her Kanemitsu no Tomoe on Kirinmaru as she calls out to Towa. Kirinmaru stops Setsuna by simply holding her Kanemitsu no Tomoe with two fingers. Kirinmaru tells Setsuna though her form is excellent her blade edge is subpar. Setsuna becomes shocked. Kirinmaru tells Setsuna with a blade edge like that she won’t be able to scratch him before he thrusts Setsuna back. Setsuna’s Kanemitsu no Tomoe shows several cracks in it. Towa calls out to Setsuna. Towa’s Energy Blade becomes bigger when she witnesses Setsuna being pushed back by Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru tells Towa that's right as for her to manifest her true strength Setsuna must be in danger or so Riku witnessed before he throws Towa back with his Bakuseiken. Kirinmaru tells Towa what a caring older sister she is before he walks towards Setsuna. Towa sneaks up from behind and cuts through Kirinmaru in the same exact spot where Riku inflicted the wound on him. Kirinmaru says he suppose he let his guard down a little. Towa tells Kirinmaru to not lay a hand on Setsuna. Towa says to Riku that she'll be taking advantage of the wound he left behind before she enhances the demon energy within her blade inside of Kirinmaru. This causes a small amount of blood to leak through Kirinmaru’s mouth. Witnessing Setsuna running at him after he is in a weaker position, Kirinmaru uses his powers to push Towa and her Energy Blade away from him. Kirinmaru blocks Setsuna’s attack by holding up his Demonic Energy Barrier. Setsuna uses the Blood Blade in her arm to breakthrough the barrier and inflicts a scratch on Kirinmaru’s face at the same spot where Towa scratched his face the last time they’ve met. Kirinmaru becomes extremely frustrated and uses his Bakuseiken against Setsuna. Setsuna attempts to block Kirinmaru’s swing but is unable to as his Bakuseiken slices through and breaks her Kanemitsu no Tomoe. Towa becomes completely horrified to see Kirinmaru fatally injuring her twin sister. Setsuna’s eyes starts to close and she ends up falling backwards to the ground after Kirinmaru used his Bakuseiken on her. Towa then calls out to Setsuna. Towa swiftly runs to Setsuna’s side while panicking and repeatedly calls out to her and sits by her on the ground as tears form in her eyes. Towa narrates that when she was little she had a younger twin sister Setsuna and they lived in the forest for the longest time. Kirinmaru spectates as Towa cries calling out for Setsuna as he wipes his blood from his mouth. Towa tells Setsuna 'no' as she can't. Setsuna opens her eyes and apologizes to Towa. Setsuna endured a great deal of damage from Kirinmaru with her chest completely sliced open with blood stains on her clothes and her Mokomoko. Towa continues to cry and tells Setsuna 'no' and to not worry about saying anything as she's going to patch her up right now. Towa explains she and Setsuna were always together and they got along so well. As Setsuna is laying on the ground, she looks up at Towa and calmly asks what are those tears as it’s like she's going to die or something. Towa tells Setsuna of course that’s not going to happen. Setsuna tells Towa that's right as she won’t die at a place like this and it's just. Towa questions Setsuna about it's just. Setsuna tells Towa that it's just that she's getting a little sleepy. Towa widens her eyes hearing Setsuna’s words. Setsuna chokes on her own words from saying anything else. Towa continues to narrates why at that moment. Setsuna tells Towa that she's sorry and she calls her 'Sis'. Towa's eyes widened. Setsuna tells Towa that she's going to sleep just a little bit before she closes her eyes. When Setsuna closes her eyes, a scene of the Dream Butterfly shows up and places itself on her forehead while Towa is holding her hand. It appears that Towa is unable to see the Dream Butterfly. The scene shows a pitch black background with pink flowers on the ground as the Dream Butterfly placing itself on Setsuna’s forehead and disappears on contact. Setsuna tells Towa good night. Towa releases Setsuna's hand. Towa narrates then why at that moment did she let go of Setsuna's hand. Towa looks at her hand when she released hers from Setsuna’s and breaks down in grief. Kirinmaru looks over at Setsuna’s body on the ground and tells Towa this is truly regrettable and if they had Sesshōmaru's Tenseiga they could have brought Setsuna back to life but alas Zero already broke it in half. Kirinmaru looks up at the sky and Moroha comes flying down from Kirara in her Beniyasha form. Kirinmaru tells Moroha that she's transformed into Beniyasha and wonders will she yet again become the Destroyer of Lands. Moroha confidently tells to Kirinmaru that if that were the case then maybe he would've lived a bit longer. Kirinmaru becomes surprised at Moroha. Moroha looks up at Kirinmaru and tells him that this is the first time she’s ever felt so calm after applying her rouge and she bets this is probably the true Beniyasha's power. Kirinmaru walks away. Moroha glances over at Towa with Setsuna and tells Kirinmaru that he’s going to die here. Kirinmaru holds up his sword preparing to battle Moroha and notices Tōga's form in a gigantic and magnificent spirit with Moroha’s demon energy in a flame-like body. Kirinmaru is surprised and says it can't be but realizes this is the place where Tōga died. Towa tells Moroha to wait as stands before Kirinmaru as well. Kirinmaru notices Towa’s demon energy of the Blue Azure Dragon engulfs her as well with great size, almost identical to Beniyasha’s. Kirinmaru becomes surprised and jumps back. Towa tells Moroha that Kirinmaru is her prey and she’ll be the one to avenge Setsuna. Towa’s Energy Blade is currently radiating 2 Blue Azure Dragons as she’s holding it. Towa tells Kirinmaru how dare you kill her Setsuna and she hopes he's ready as a crescent moon appears on her forehead. Towa’s hair also grows in length with added fangs and red markings on each side of her face. Towa calls out to Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru tells Towa that he sees as this is her true power. Moroha tells Towa that she can't let her have this one as Setsuna was also her precious friend too. Kirinmaru tells Towa and Moroha that it will matter not as after all he is the Beast King of the East and of the Dawn as both of them can be his opponents. Towa and Moroha tell Kirinmaru if that's what he wants then they challenge him as they run ahead to attack him. Towa uses her Energy Blade to strike Kirinmaru with 2 Azure Dragons coming out from it. Moroha uses her Crimson Dragon Wave at Kirinmaru. Towa and Moroha’s powerful attacks are headed towards Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru places his Bakuseiken on the ground before he uses hand signs to defend himself against the attacks and holds up two Demonic Energy Barriers with his hands as he transforms into a more monstrous human form of himself. Kirinmaru holds back both Towa and Moroha’s attacks. Towa becomes surprised. As Kirinmaru is holding back the attacks, he informs Towa to remember this well as Sesshōmaru created the attack the Azure Dragon Wave however she turned the dragon into twin heads and from here on she shall call this Twin Azure Dragon Wave. Kirinmaru tells Moroha what a magnificent Crimson Dragon Wave as the dragon will only listen to her will and because of that he cannot push it away. As Kirinmaru holds off Towa’s Twin Azure Dragon Wave and Moroha’s Crimson Dragon Wave, a huge explosion occurs between the two attacks and the ground forms a gigantic pothole. Moroha comes out of the ground as she calls out to Towa. Towa manages to protect Setsuna from being hit by the explosion by placing up a barrier with her Energy Blade. Kirinmaru tells Towa and Moroha that this one stings as he never thought they’d damage him this much. Moroha becomes shocked that Kirinmaru withstood her and Towa's attacks. Towa says she wasn't expecting anything less. Kirinmaru tells Towa that despite a hanyō she is doing well to not lose control with all that demon energy. Kirinmaru levitates his Bakuseiken from the ground and picks it up as he tells Towa and Moroha that he shall praise them for that. Moroha tells Kirinmaru that it angers her how he's always looking down at them. Towa tells Kirinmaru enough of his lectures as whether or not his life will measure up to Setsuna's and she'll find that out right now. Towa and Moroha fly through the air as they aim to attack Kirinmaru once again. Kirinmaru swings his Bakuseiken and transitions him, Towa, and Moroha into a galaxy-like environment. Towa ignites a magnificent demon energy taking the shape similarly to a Dog Demon behind her and Moroha ignites magnificent demon energy taking the shape of Tōga. Kirinmaru stands on a planet-like rock and says it is most splendid as this is the sort of battle he's always wanted. The energy spirit of the Great Dog-Demon holds a sword and slices through the planet figure which Kirinmaru currently stands on. Kirinmaru dodges the hit and goes after Towa’s Demon Dog figure and attempts to cut through the magnificent energy with his Bakuseiken. The energy spirit of the Demon Dog figure engulfs Kirinmaru and inflicts damage upon him. Kirinmaru rises above from the damage he’s taken and the demon spirit energy of Tōga sneaks up behind him using it’s sword to attack Kirinmaru. Kirinmaru uses his Bakuseiken to hold up a barrier to withstand the great attack. Kirinmaru manages to push back the energy spirit of Tōga behind his barrier. The spirit of Towa’s Dog Form figure runs towards Kirinmaru. Towa tells Kirinmaru that she'll be taking his demon energy. Kirinmaru tells Towa to go ahead and try, sending a huge purple/black sphere of his demon energy from his Bakuseiken. Kirinmaru’s sphere of demon energy goes through the Demon Dog spirit and as the sphere comes closer to Towa. Towa holds out her Energy Blade in attempt to steal Kirinmaru’s demon energy. Towa tells Kirinmaru that his demon energy as she'll take it all. Towa’s attempt to steal Kirinmaru’s demon energy becomes too overwhelming for her. Towa’s own demon energy overcomes her and reverses her transformation, turning her back to normal. Kirinmaru’s demon energy subsides after Towa becomes unsuccessful in stealing his demon energy. Towa falls back, becoming weak after losing her full-demon transformation. Moroha calls out to Towa. Moroha flies across in attempt to save Towa but Kirinmaru comes along stopping her and uses his Bakuseiken to cut through the massive demon energy spirit of Tōga. Upon Kirinmaru slicing Moroha’s huge demonic energy, Moroha loses her Beniyasha form and falls straight to the ground of the gigantic pothole along with Towa.
Towa opens her eyes shortly after falling and looks up at Kirinmaru who is levitating in the air. Kirinmaru tells Towa and Moroha that he hasn’t fought like this since his battle with Tōga as it's most unfortunate that he must end it in such a way and he awaits the next time they can meet. Kirinmaru looks over at Setsuna’s body laying on the ground and says he shall carve her name onto his heart and he will never forget her before he flies off. Rain begins to fall after Kirinmaru leaves. Moroha wakes up with Kirara in front of her and calls out to her. Moroha apologizes to Setsuna because it looks like she and Towa lost. Towa weakly makes her way towards Setsuna’s body, calling out her name. Towa looks at Setsuna’s body and repeatedly apologizes to her while heavily sobbing. Towa narrates that this world is full of the weak but the ones who are truly weak are the ones who couldn’t protect what they wanted to protect most. Towa lays her head on Setsuna’s body as she continues to cry. Towa narrates and that’s what she would call her and how could she be so weak. A scene of Sesshōmaru’s Mokomoko is shown flying by. Towa looks up with tears running down her face to see Sesshōmaru standing in front of her. Setsuna’s body is laid in between Towa and Sesshōmaru. Towa calls out to Sesshōmaru. Sesshōmaru takes out his Tenseiga. The scene shows Sesshōmaru talking to Towa inaudibly. Towa’s eyes widens at Sesshōmaru’s words. The rain pauses mid-scene and shows Sesshōmaru holding out his Tenseiga to Towa. Sesshōmaru asks Towa if she will try using this as he holds out his Tenseiga to her. Towa respectfully takes the Tenseiga from Sesshōmaru’s grasp with both hands. The falling rain unpauses and a scene is shown of Setsuna’s face smiling with her eyes closed. The final scene shows Towa standing up in the middle of the huge pothole, holding the Tenseiga close to her with Sesshōmaru already gone.
Characters in Order of Appearance[]
Trivia[]
- This is the final episode to have BURN as the opening theme and Kesshou as the ending theme.
- However the ending theme was used as an insert rather than accompany the respective animation.
- Moroha finally manages to master her Beniyasha form, having control of her demonic energy and not immediately feeling completely wiped out from it. Although it is yet to be confirmed whether it was due to being near Tōga's demonic essence.
- When Setsuna's blade of her naginata turned red is very similar to how Tessaiga transformed into Red Tessaiga.
- Setsuna is the first main character to die; albeit temporarily, as she is saved by the Tenseiga in the second season premiere which is also known as the following overall episode. Now having to wield a much more powerful upgraded version of her naginata which is now called the Yukari no Tachikiri, this episode is most likely considered to be her only death in the series since her blade was improper.
- This is also the first time that Setsuna calls Towa "Sis" since she was 4 years old just before she dies.
- This episode was originally scheduled to broadcast on Toonami on December 12, 2021, but an error occurred where Episode 21 was mistakenly re-aired in its place. The block later correctly aired this episode on January 2, 2022.
Errors[]
- When Towa becomes a full demon, the crescent moon marking on her forehead originally had the ends on a diagonal position. But is later seen to match that of Sesshōmaru, her grandmother and Setsuna (in demon form).
- When trying to absorb Kirinmaru's vast amounts of demonic energy into herself, the red strand of Towa's hair is colored as the same silver-white as the rest of her hair.
