Summary[]

Inuyasha and the others have already arrived at the tower and Kaede realizes that Tsubaki was in rivalry with Kikyō at the time. Since she was awarded the Shikon no Tama, Tsubaki became angry and over time turned into a black priestess. Then suddenly they are facing Kagura, who does not want to fight, but just wants to watch how the gigantic Shikigami who appears now to destroy Inuyasha.

Momiji and Botan were lying asleep on their backs with a wet cloth pressed against their foreheads. Shippō was gathering water while Miroku watched over them. Momiji is the first to wake up. She was instantly surprised when she sees Miroku's face as she awoke before backing away, after recalling his perverted nature. The monk told her to calm down and that he had no intention of hurting her and wanted to ask her something, as she inquires. He then proceeded to ask if she would bear his children, as she nervously cannot respond. He then turned his attention to the waking Botan and asked her as well. This prompted Momiji to angrily observe that Miroku was not very choosy, but he claimed that there was enough of him to go around. They were both surprised when Shippõ suddenly approached them. Momiji held up a sutra and warned him to keep his distance. Miroku explained that Shippō was the one who took care of them, since he was ordered not to touch them by Kagome and Sango. They are confused and asked if Shippō was not actually a bad yōkai. The young kitsune claimed that he had never harmed a human, as they were surprised to hear not all demons were bad. They were again taken in by Shippō and Kirara for their cuteness and started to affectionately smother them after realizing that they were not evil (much to Shippō's annoyance and Miroku's jealousy). They proceeded to ask Miroku why he and the others were in pursuit of Tsubaki. He told them that she previously cursed Kagome.

The fight would be ended by Wind Scar, but Kagura stops it and then finally supports a giant zombie warrior vigorously. Kagome, however, destroys her magic with an arrow and so the wind scar destroys the demon, where upon Kagura leaves. Inuyasha, Kagome and Kaede go into the tower, Kaede recognizes in the pagoda that something enormously strong was kept under lock and key by the seal. Momiji and Botan reacted in disbelief at first, but Miroku assured them that she was a dark priestess. Kirara flew all four of them back to the shrine to show Momiji and Botan Tsubaki's true nature.

Ogre-Tsubaki

Tsubaki, transformed into a giant Ogre

Meanwhile, Tsubaki is able to open the pagoda doors after destroying seal after seal, but there were other seals placed down below. When she finally broke the last seal on the ogre, it was furious that he had been sealed and threatened to kill Tsubaki for it. She tempted the ogre with the promise of power from the Shikon no Tama that was in her possession. As it came at Tsubaki for the sacred jewel, she absorbed him with her right eye and recognizes its tremendous power, which makes her almost crazy with power. Inuyasha, Kagome, Sango, and Kaede then showed up to confront Tsubaki as they want the sacred jewel back. Kagome realizes that the jewel is in Tsubaki's right eye. Tsubaki expressed how much demon power was flowing through her and only if she had the Sacred Jewel 50 years ago. Curious, Kaede asks Tsubaki what happened between her and Kikyō 50 years ago. Now Tsubaki tells the story of how she had to deal with Kikyō before she insulted her. Inuyasha angrily tells Tsubaki to not talk badly of Kikyō in his presence. Tsubaki tells Inuyasha to be silent before she attacked him with wind. Tsubaki begins her transformation into a large, red demon.

When Miroku, Shippō, Kirara, Momiji, and Botan arrived, Momiji and Botan were horrified to see that the doors of a pagoda known as the "Forbidden Tower of Many Treasures" had been opened. They saw that Tsubaki had fused with the oni as she emerged from the pagoda and were shocked by this revelation. Inuyasha and the others leave the pagoda after Tsubaki's transformation was causing it to collapse. Tsubaki emerged as a giant red oni. She proclaimed that she would have eternal life with all this power. Tsubaki begins to attack everyone with her new powers. Miroku told Momiji and Botan to get back as Tsubaki started to attack.

Meanwhile Tsubaki has grown to an enormous size, Tessaiga has no chance against her. The Wind Scar makes Tsubaki scream, but here too she comes through unscathed and goes angry to counterattack, which she carries out with her lightning bolts. Miroku's Wind Tunnel would destroy it, but it bursts the ground under him, so that he has to break off the attack, only Kagome's sacred arrow has an effect on the beast and burns her arm. In the end, however, that doesn't impress Tsubaki either, and she says that Kikyo did not recognize the true power of the Sacred Jewel. Tsubaki, however, is still keen to use the power of the jewel to her eternal youth and to incorporate other demons like Inuyasha. She wants to suck him in her right eye, but he holds on steadfastly and can withstand a subsequent lightning strike. Then he jumps into her next attack and places his wind scar there, which then brings the energy of the demon and tsubaki under control and sends it back to her - the Backlash Wave. The ogre is beaten with his own weapons and ultimately only the lonely Tsubaki sits there. One of Naraku's poisonous insects steaks the Shikon Jewel fragment from Tsubaki's eye. Sango kills the insect but the jewel fragment is taken by Kagura. Without the Jewel, and with her demonic power having been destroyed earlier, Tsubaki's body turns to ashes as she slowly fades away, remembers that she broke away from her master.

Momiji and Botan apologized to Inuyasha and the others for all the trouble they caused. Kagome told them that it wasn't their fault. They two priestesses saw Inuyasha's group off as they left the shrine. Momiji was seen waving to them as they left. When they leave, Inuyasha hears a rustling in a bush and stops and turns around. Kagome asks Inuyasha what's the matter. Inuyasha says it's nothing as it's just his imagination before he continues to leave. Inuyasha was secretly being watched by Kikyō, who is hiding behind a tree. Kikyō peeks out from behind the tree as she thinks to herself that Tsubaki was so obsessed with the Sacred Jewel but there was no way she would win and questions herself who was she to talk about obsessed then leaves into the forest.
