The Flat yōkai (妖怪平薄平) was a yōkai with the ability to alter his body to become as thin as paper.

History[]

A mysterious yōkai was stealing scrolls from a human village. An exorcist was called to the village to deal with these thefts. She enlisted the aid of Inuyasha and his friends, to which Miroku was eager to accept for the reward. Since no one had seen the yōkai commit theses crimes, he was initially believed to be an invisible yōkai. They set a trap for him by gathering a bunch of scrolls for him to steal. He was captured by Inuyasha after attempting to make himself so thin that he could not be seen. He led everyone to a cave of all the stuff he stole, and explained that he was attracted to "thin and shiny" objects. He promised to return everything he stole if his life would be spared. Miroku also made him promise to stay away from humans. He then made himself thin again, and let himself be carried away by the air current.

Personality[]

Not much is known about the flat yōkai, but he does not appear to be a malevolent yōkai, quite the opposite in fact. He did not steal scrolls for profit or to hurt anyone, but merely because he liked shiny objects. Additionally, when he was captured by Inuyasha and his friends the flat yōkai begged them to spare his life, which further suggests that he was not a violent demon, and was in fact slightly cowardly.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Body manipulation: This yōkai is capable of altering his body to become as thin as paper. He uses this to steal scrolls without anyone being able to see him.
