Furai shrine (風雷神社, "Furai-jinja") is a shrine on top of Mount Furai. It is a small wooden temple inside which is the image of the priestess/samurai Tsukiyomi, candles forming a pentagon. It is a recognized temple with great spiritual power and energies capable of purifying demonic auras thanks to Tsukiyomi's energy.

History[]

The daiyōkai Hoshiyomi wished to increase his power to protect his love Tsukiyomi. He had gone to the house of Kaijinbō to ask him to forge the Naginata of Kenkon with two hundred and twenty-two corpses of demons, but he begins to be corrupted by its demonic powers upon receiving the weapon. Tsukiyomi tried to save him from this by sealing him for a moment inside the temple and separating the halberd, which exhausted all his energies. At the time of releasing Hoshiyomi, Tsukiyomi died due to lack of energy. Hoshiyomi took this as a betrayal and began to keep a deep hatred of humans.

During the story[]

Akitoki Hōjō went to Kaede's village to ask her help for the purification of the ken blade of the halberd. Since the sacred land Mount Hakurei was destroyed, Kaede recommended going to Furai shrine. Hoshiyomi, who already had the kon blade, sent his demon ninjas to attack Akitoki and retrieve the ken blade. Inuyasha's group accompanied Akitoki and protected him from the ninja, however Kagome and Akitoki were separated from the grip. Both tried to reach Furai shrine to purify the halberd as soon as possible, but were delayed by Genbu's puppet trap. When Kagome discovers the trap and ends with the puppets, she is kidnapped and taken with Hoshiyomi, who takes her to the temple while his ninjas fight on the bank of Shoun Falls against Inuyasha's group.

Hoshiyomi began a ceremony to gather both blades of the halberd, putting an energy field on top of the mountain. Hoshiyomi awoke up Kagome and asked her why she travels with an hanyō, since that relationship should not exist. Kagome asked if anyone hurt him, but Hoshiyomi did not answer and looked at Tsukiyomi's portrait on the wall of the temple and spoke about Tsukiyomi's betrayal to Kagome, telling her that he will kill all human beings to end the betrayals and stole Kagome's energy to recover the energy of her halberd. Hoshiyomi leaves with Kagome asleep in his arms and created a black hole on the mountain, destroying the temple.
