Hakushin's shakujō (白心上人の錫杖, "Hakushin no shakujō") was a staff that belonged to Saint Hakushin.
History[]
When Saint Hakushin turned himself into a living Buddha for the sake of the people, he entrusted his staff to Shintarō's ancestors over 100 years ago.[1]
During the story[]
When a mysterious light descended upon Hijiri island, the Chief of Hijiri village decided to investigate it and took the staff with him after taking it out from its storage space. He confronted a horde of yōkai on the island that belonged to Naraku. He managed to momentarily hold them off with Hakushin's staff, but was killed in the end due to being severely outnumbered.
Two weeks later, his son Shintarō traveled to Hijiri island with Inuyasha's group after his father failed to return home. They discovered the skeleton of his father laying around. Bankotsu of the Shichinintai confronted them in from Hakushin's tomb. It was discovered that Hakushin's mummified body disappeared and his staff was buried in one of the walls of the temple.
Shintaro pulled this staff from the wall and used it to help Miroku to break the barrier of the dokko belonging to Hakushin that weakened Inuyasha with its purification powers.
Physical description[]
It is a long pole with a finial on top of it, similar to Miroku's shakujō, but it does not have six rings around the finial.
Powers and abilities[]
The staff is shown to intensify its wielders's spiritual powers. Shintarō was able to focus his energy with the staff when he helped Miroku destroy the protective barrier around the dokko that was purifying Hijiri island. It is also an effective weapon against yōkai.
Manga vs. anime[]
- The staff does not exist in the manga.
- In the manga, the barrier around the dokko is broken by Miroku alone.
