The Higurashi sacred sutras (aka Spirit Wards) were sacred sutras created by Grandpa Higurashi for the express purpose of sealing the Bone-Eater's Well. They, as with most spiritual objects that he made, were ineffective, as shown when Inuyasha not only managed to pass through the well, but also had the sutras with him to prove their uselessness.[1] These sutras were also shown on the package of the Noh Mask[Note 1] in the Higurashi storehouse, yet they seemed to have more power because they managed to contain the mask for many years before finally being overcome because of the presence of the Shikon no Tama.[2]

Trivia[]

  • As the Noh Mask was supposedly sealed in the package long ago,[2] it's very likely they weren't the same sacred sutras as the ones that Grandpa Higurashi made, but his ancestor, his great-great-great-great grandfather had exorcised the Noh Mask long ago, it is possible he has big amount of spiritual power to sealed in the package.[2][Note 1]
  • It's possible Grandpa Higurashi has a small amount of spiritual power in the anime, but his sutras can only ward off only demonic beings with wicked intents. Given his sutras kept the Noh Mask away from him, but did nothing to Inuyasha (who was more morally gray when Grandpa attempted to seal the well).
