InuYasha

The Human who loved Midoriko (翠子の求婚者, Midoriko no kyūkon-sha, "Midoriko's suitor") is a minor character in the manga series InuYasha.

History[]

Human who loved Midoriko death

The demons' possession.

He was an evil man who secretly loved the ancient priestess Midoriko five hundred years before the events of the series, during the Heian period[1], a time when the court nobility were still in control of Japan.[2]

As an easiest Kodoku spell, countless numbers of minor yōkai (dragons, ground-spiders, oni, and so on) possessed this mortal man who desired Midoriko and formed into one demon with a boundless power only in order to kill their hateful nemesis, similar to how Onigumo loved Kikyō and created Naraku.

However, rather then an hanyō like Naraku, the resulting creature was a full-fledged demon without any sort of human heart at all. In fact, while Onigumo's body was completely devoured by demons and his evil soul used as their adhesive, the man was killed and, avoiding a fusion with his human mind, forcibly absorbed on the base of the dragon's neck, where only the head and right hand of his dead body were visible, but of course not inside the jewel since only the spirits were seen there and the human's spirit was not part of the fusion.

Personality[]

Nothing is known about his personality outside of that he privately yearned for Midoriko and that this hidden impurity allowed the yōkai to possess him. In the illustration accompanying Sango's story, the man is huddling in fear as the yōkai converge on him, which could imply that the possession was against his will.

Physical description[]

Human who loved Midoriko body

The mummified corpse.

His features are kept hidden in flashbacks and only his corpse. Mummified and in an advanced state of decay, he is ever seen, making his full appearance a mystery.

Trivia[]

Face On Dragon Final Act

The face on the dragon's neck (anime only).

  • Not much is known about Midoriko and the human's relationship, if they even had one, other than the fact that the human was secretly in love with Midoriko.
  • Although no longer there, just before Inuyasha sliced the demon with the Wind Scar in the final battle, a face is depicted without explanation underneath the dragon's jaw.
