Kin'u (金烏) is Miroku and Sango's daughter, Gyokuto's elder identical twin sister, and the eldest of their three children. She was the only one who followed in her father's footsteps in cultivating her inherent spiritual/Buddhist powers to become an 'Ama' (, a Buddhist nun).

Kin'u, alongside Gyokuto, were born in a house at Kaede's village.

Not much is known about Kin'u’s childhood/teenage years because the anime only shows her briefly as a child alongside Gyokuto when Rin is giving birth to Towa and Setsuna on the night of the lunar eclipse.

Years later, Kin'u (now a young adult) followed in her father's footsteps and became a nun distributing spiritual abilities via sacred sutras.[2] Her golden spiritual-infused staff has not been seen.

Kin'u treated Inuyasha just like Kagome did when she first met him, calling him "Doggy" and petting his ears. As usual, Inuyasha was annoyed by this as he did not like his ears being touched by anyone. Kin'u acted like most toddlers would, seeing as how she was curious and still so young.

As a young adult, Kin'u, seems to not take things seriously and openly makes fun of her father when he comes up with new ways to train. Kin'u also reacts defensively when Hisui insinuates that she isn't a brave older sister like Towa. Kin'u is more outgoing, playful, cheerful and childlike.[3] Also, along with Gyokuto, Kin'u enjoy playing with Shippō in a way that is not enjoyable to him since she was a toddler.

Physical description

Kin'u with her family and Shippō.

Kin'u bare a striking resemblance to her mother and her younger twin sister as she have dark brown hair with short bangs, and bright brown eyes. She wears a light green kimono with green bows and a rose-colored sash, and her hair is tied up into a small ponytail by a white ribbon.

As a young adult, Kin'u wears a nun's attire with a saffron sash, a black robe, brown woven sandals and a necklace of fuchsia beads. She wears her short hair down in a bob cut.

Powers and abilities

Kin'u becomes a nun (female version of a monk) and has her own spiritual powers that she yet to display and develop fully.

  • Middle-Level Buddhist Powers: TBA
    • Sealing: Quite confident in them, she was able successfully reapply her father's sacred seal on Setsuna to further deep her demon self in line.

  • Sacred Sutras: Like her father, she can generate a barrage of sutras infused her spiritual energies to immobilize, incapacitate or obliterate an enemy into nothingness entirely. It was first used on the octopus-demon that was attacking Princess Aiya. However, did not glow with any blue spiritual aura.

  • Kin'u's name was not revealed in the manga.
  • Together with Gyokuto, they are collectively called "KinGyo" (きんぎょ) by their parents and close friends.[4][5]
  • Her name 金烏 translates to "Golden Crow." Miroku may have named her and her sister according to the Chinese idiom "金烏西墜,玉兔東昇" – the golden crow of the sun sets in the west, the jade hare of the moon rises in the east.[6] The idiom originates from a phrase in an ancient text.[7]
