Mantis yōkai (妖怪蟷螂, ようかいかまきり) are huge yōkai, who take the form of humans by eating them, and then disguise themselves with their skin. Obviously, they can also create barriers but they are not particularly strong.

Miroku met a mantis yōkai, who had assumed the form of a princess. He killed her with his wind tunnel. Later, Inuyasha fought a mantis yōkai, which terrorized a whole clan of peaceful demons.

Trivia

  • A mantis yokai, in the same style as the ones from InuYasha, made an appearance in the first chapter of Rumiko Takahashi's manga, Mao.
