Michiru Kururugi (枢木みちる) is the male version of the main character in the video game The Secret of the Cursed Mask. He has the mysterious and incredible powers of the Shikigami, which come down to the four elements: fire, water, wind, and light. Animal symbols for his elemental attacks also exist.

History[]

The game begins when Michiru enters the family storage shed in modern-day Japan to retrieve an item for father. After falling through a mysteriously etched pentagram on the floorboards, the player is transported to Feudal Japan. Unfortunately, the villagers mistake the time traveler as a demon and attack. After several close calls, Michiru comes face to face with Inuyasha, who notices the stranger's clothes "look like Kagome's."

After introductions with the rest of the cast, the player begins to search for answers as to why Michiru has been brought back to the feudal era and how to get home. The game progresses as any normal InuYasha storyline, with the InuYasha group traveling from village to village in pursuit of Naraku (and Michiru's answers), sometimes helping out with a local problem or two. Occasionally traces to Naraku himself are revealed, as well as leads to Michiru's mystery and the title's "cursed mask," which holds secrets to returning the character to the present. Along the way, Michiru to harness the power of shikigami from a mysterious old villager called Kakuju, a force needed in order to help Inuyasha and the others overcome the dangerous obstacles ahead while unraveling the plot of the mystic Utsugi.

Powers and abilities[]

Michiru is able to wield the power of Shikigami after having the ability drawn forth by Kakuju after awakening to the power by accident when attacked by a random yōkai shortly after his arrival in the Feudal Era. While Kakuju describes the power as an energy that flows through all life in the universe, making it more akin to ki energy, it is loosely based on Onmyōdō, a mixed Spiritual-Magical power of Japanese myth said to be practiced by Onmyōji and most famously said to have been used by Abe no Seimei, Japan's equivalent to the wizard Merlin of Arthurian legend.

  • Shikigami: Over the course of his journey to find a way back to his own time with Inuyasha and the others, Michiru learns various Shikigami spells that he can utilize by speaking an incantation beginning with a prayer towards certain elements. Regardless of the aura color his spell gives him, a red pentagram in the shape of a five-pointed star will always expand out and vanish underneath Michiru.
    • "Help me out Shikgami"/"Shikigami, attack!": Said by Michiru by tossing unrefined Shikigami energy at an enemy, doing minor damage.
    • "Oh flame burning bright...": A chant beginning with this prayer has Michiru cast offensive spells with the intent of dealing damage to one or more targets.
      • Turn into a sword of wrath: A basic damage spell. Michiru used it three times to destroy rocks sensitive to Shikigami.
      • Change form at my call: Reflects damage done to Michiru back at the enemy that attacked him.
      • Shine your judgement upon us: Deals heavy damage to all enemies.
    • "Oh flowing mighty river...": A chant beginning with this prayer has Michiru cast spells that can heal others.
      • Give me your blessing: Heals one party member.
      • Ring with the sound of blessing: Casts a shower of blue sparkles over the entire party to restore everyone's HP to full capacity. But will not revive fainted party members.
    • "Oh overflowing blue sky...": A chant beginning with this prayer has Michiru cast spells that debilitate or hinder a target.
      • Clear these storm clouds from my path: A spell learned from Kakuju with the use of a magatama fruit. Allows the user to break barriers and the rocks generating them. But does not work on barriers stronger than the caster's magic.
      • Let ring your silent voice: Prevents and enemy from using their Techniques for a few turns.
      • Fill this space with chaos: Inflicts Confusion on one enemy.
    • "Oh brightly burning light...": A chant beginning with this prayer has Michiru either greatly fortify the defenses of his allies or, at the cost of all his HP, heavily damage large groups of enemies.
      • Lend me your healing power: Calls form domes of green energy to boost the Defense of the party.
      • Hear my prayer: Creates a powerful energy blast at the cost of fainting Michiru.
    • Co-Op Techs: By forming bonds with Inuyasha and co., Michiru can focus his Shikigami to enhance the attacks of his friends by chanting either "Help me out, Shikigami..." or "Forces of nature, heed my call... Unleash your power, Shikigami!".
