The Oni women (
History[]
Many women who had lost their loved ones to war during the feudal era had established a village in order to support one and other. This included a shrine dedicated to the god Kannon that contained a scroll of her that had been made from the skin of a salamander yōkai long ago. When the hanyō Naraku emerged after the destruction of Mount Hakurei, his jaki had awoken the salamander's spirit within the scroll and she began to control the women of the village by implanting her eggs in their stomach. Since then had them lure men into the village and brought them to her shrine in order to kill them and use their flesh to revive herself. The women would then dump the corpses of their victims into a nearby river.
During the story[]
When Inuyasha's group were searching for Naraku, they heard rumours of a village of oni women from an elderly villager. They eventually reached in after crossing paths with Shinosuke, who was also searching for the village in the hopes of finding his lost fiancée Wakana. After being led to the village, one of the women Matsu, told them that Wakana was not among them, and then offered to let them all stay for the night. They group was then separated by gender and placed in their own lodgings. They later noticed noticed that the women were acting strange and were all gathering by the river. Sango followed them, but was confronted and soon captured by them. She was then lead to a cave where she was forced to ingest one of the salamander's eggs by Matsuand became its slave. The others were confronted by the woman while trying to find Sango. The salamander was killed by Inuyasha, but the women (including Sango) were still possessed. They were later freed from control after their eggs had be exorcised with Miroku's sacred sutras.
Trivia[]
- The oni women are similar to the women in "A Mermaid Never Smiles", the first story in the series Mermaid Saga that was written by the creator of InuYasha Rumiko Takahashi. Both groups of women kill all the men that stumble across them. Also, there is a strong connection between the women and water in both instances. In the Mermaid Saga, the women are mermaids that attack the heroes underwater in one scene, similar to the underwater battles with the possessed women in Inuyasha.
