Tōkajin's gourd.

Tōkajin's gourd (桃果人の瓢箪, とうかじんのひょうたん, "Tōkajin no hyōtan") was a container that the sage Tōkajin carried with him. It was made from the dried shell of a calabash.

Manga vs. Anime[]

  • In the anime, Tōkajin uses the gourd as a way to extract nourishment from humans by shrinking them down and dissolving them inside so he can provide it to Ninmenka. In the manga, the gourd is only used by Tōkajin as a bottle to drink from. Instead, he uses his staff to shrink others so he can eat them when they are small. He would provide Ninmenka with the remains of the people he eats to grow more fruit.
  • In the anime, Tōkajin shrinks Inuyasha and traps him with his gourd. Inuyasha tries to escape before the liquid in the gourd dissolves him. He is able to use his sheath to control Tessaiga from outside the gourd to puncture a hole for him break the gourd and escape. In the manga, Tōkajin shrinks Inuyasha with his staff, and devours him. He escapes Tōkajin's stomach by using his sheath to control Tessaiga from outside his stomach and puncture him to the point where he throws up Inuyasha.
